Neoka's Song

When everything is in harmony, there is no chaos. When the world chants, we listen. When the birds sing, spring rises. When the winds blow, we feel the rhythm move us... Life is a song, and I intend to share it with you.

didnt think id find time for this...

For some reason I did not think I would have had time to reflect on my new years resolutions.
But today I got a 'blast from the past' as they say.

It all came flowing back to me when a friend wanted some advice on running a DAMU screening.

The realization hit that I have been living in a mirage of responsibility.
I have been living what I shoul dbe doing. Not what I want to be doing.

I want to be meeting diverse change agents
I want to be standing in front of audiences sharing my stories
I want to build my NGOs foundation
I want to learn about other initiatives and build networks and contacts
I want to write
I want to read
I want to listen to passionate people telling me what they believe they can achieve
I want to love again
I want to capture art and beautiful things
I want to climb a mountain
I want to meditate
I want to see the smile on a face of someone lit on fire with the passion to make change
I want to be feel like I am being a good person

This is what I want in 2007. It may not be lined with ambitous goals like going to the gym, or taking up a new hobby. No. For me, the details will happen, its the experiences and the character I want to become in 2007 that pushes me.

Happy New Years World,

May 2007 challenge you,
may it drive you to the limits of your potential,
and may it remind you why you walk the path you chose to walk.

Flipsyde - Happy Birthday

This song is dedicated to all the voices of hope that never got to speak...

Happy Birthday
So make a wish

Verse 1:
Please accept my apologies, I wonder what would have been.
Would you have been a little angel or an angel of sin?
Tom-boy running around, hanging with all the guys.
Or a little tough boy with beautiful brown eyes.
I paid for the murder before they determined the sex,
choosing our life over your life meant your death.
And you never got a chance to even open your eyes,
sometimes I wonder as a fetus if you fought for your life.
Would you have been a little genius? In love with math?
Would you have played in your school clothes and made me mad?
Would you have been a little rapper like your poppa The Piper?
Would you have made me quit smoking by finding one of my lighters?
I wonder about your skin tone and shape of your nose,
and the way you would've laughed and talked fast or slow.
I think about it every year, so I picked up a pen.
Happy birthday, I love you for whoever you would've been.
Happy Birthday

Chorus:

What I thought was a dream
Make a wish
Was as real as it seemed
happy birthday
What I thought was a dream
make a wish
Was as real as it seem
I made a mistake

Verse 2:
I got a million excuses, as to why you died.
And other people got their own reasons for homicide.
Who's to say it would've worked and who's to say I wouldn't have
I was young and struggling, but old enough to be a dad.
The fear of being my father has never disappeared,
I ponder it frequently while I'm sippin' on my beer.
My vision of a family was artificial and fake
so when it came time to create, I made a mistake.
But now you got a little brother, maybe it's really you.
Maybe you really forgave us knowing we was confused.
Maybe, every time that he smiles it's you proudly
knowing that your father's doing the right thing now.
I'll never tell a woman what to do with her body,
but if she don't love children, then we can't party.
I think about it every year, so I picked up a pen.
Happy birthday, I love you for whoever you would've been.
Happy birthday

Chorus (2X)

Bridge:
And from the Heavens to the womb to the Heavens again.
From the ending to the ending, never got to begin.
Maybe one day we can meet face to face,
in a place without time and space.
Happy birthday.

Chorus
