Neoka's Song

When everything is in harmony, there is no chaos. When the world chants, we listen. When the birds sing, spring rises. When the winds blow, we feel the rhythm move us... Life is a song, and I intend to share it with you.

Movies that EVERYone must see:

Crash
I am speechless about this movie, it was so touching, no.. deeply distrubing, has the american society fell to such a level? I refuse to believe it, its nothing more than a stereotype of a growing reality amongst americans.
Its weird though, I have many american friends, and none fall into that category as seen in this movie. None the less a shocking reality. Serious, you think we shouldn't let children play with guns? I vote we let no one play with guns. Period.

Day 5

Ok, so I get to Mexico city, my friend couldn’t pick me up... that’s ok… I found my way to puebla... not sure how, but I did. Maximo, a great guy, picked me up with Diego another great aiesecer (they’re all so very great – you’ll find out why, read on.)
So we goto a fair, very nice stuff, artisan stuff, very nice, I bought some stuff there. Day 2, we go get all my stuff ready for my classes, and then at night we go to a “catino” till 5 am… very much fun. I wanna open a cantina in Canada, I swear it would be the most popular place to go. Day 3.. 10 am in the morning, yes after 5 hours of sleep me and luisa, this Venezuelan chef jumped a bus to Mexico city, we met all 19 trainees and danced salsa. Slept around 2am, woke up at 6 (can you see a pattern emerging?)
Day 4 we climb a volcano. Called “Pinche Malinche” its only pinche (damn) because I got sick afterwards, but the climb was very nice and I saw all of mexico, well not really all, but it was nice non the less. So we get back down, im covered in dirt, did I mention I did the climb in sandals? Yea, wasn’t so much ready. Im hungry so I eat some tacos and ya we leave for puebla… next thing I know, im dreaming of some corrupt photographer trying to steal money from all my friends in puebla, well the hour or two that I actually slept. In reality, I caught what they call “Maldicion Moctazuma” which sux, because the curse is supposed to be for gringos (Americans) only, sucks to be me, but at least I got to see what Mexican hospitals are like, all 25 hours of them… The best part is all the people that came to visit me, I felt so popular, and kept thinking to myself, why didn’t I go visit my friends in the hospital more often when they were sick… Yea made me feel guilty, but THANK YOU for visiting me, it made things so much easier. And now my stomach aches a lil bit, so im done with the update.
Keep it real!

What is Nationalism?

The Problem with nationalism is that it ends there. I remember my first sociology teacher asking us to rate our patronage to: our city, our province and our Country. The answer is supposed to represent what we identify with most. I say there should be a 4th option: our Earth. I would much rather consider myself a citizen of the world that claim nationalism if it means opposition to other fellow “citizens of the world” – In truth, I would rather be Human than Canadian.

See things differently

You know what is so great about globalisation? Its that people from all over the world can come together and have one language in common. It makes it so comfortable that often times we forget that these people around us are from different places. It makes life a lot easier; in fact I wish that everyone would learn how to communicate in Spanish.

An unexpected culture shock

Where do I begin? Well I could start with the fact that I had more culture shock in the Ottawa airport then I have since I arrived in Mexico. It might have to do with the 'great' service that US immigration so generously provided me. I mean its only right that every passing through is treated like a terrorist and harassed to no end, made to feel guilty for having done nothing wrong. - I haven't left Canadian soil mind you. Its rather quite sad actually, first impressions of a country mean everything for a traveler, seriously, who in the right mind would want travel to the US or even TRANSIT through the US if they face such subjugation. I want to apologise, but rather think it is said that the paranoia that exists in the states both from within and from the outside is NOT healthy. Okay, so they are the biggest and toughest and richest nation in the world, by default they face a lot of criticism; as do CEO’s of major corporations. As of late these CEO’s have come to deal with a lot of these criticisms in ways that both come out victorious. I recommend a reading to Mr. Bush, the 7 Habits of highly effective people by Stephen Covey and I point directly to Public Habit #4 “Think Win/Win”
