Neoka's Song

When everything is in harmony, there is no chaos. When the world chants, we listen. When the birds sing, spring rises. When the winds blow, we feel the rhythm move us... Life is a song, and I intend to share it with you.

AIESEC = Political?

Do not put on display at Global Village
National/Territory flags – This is a legislated rule in AIESEC and exists out of
respect for some member countries who officially cannot acknowledge flags of
other countries.

I am hoping that some of you can provide me with some insight into why this is necessary?
Is this fear over security or saftely for pakistani delegation at IC? or is it something else?

personally I don't like this move as it makes a very STRONG political statement, and we want to get away from politics... but maybe there is something deeper that I do not know about...

explanations?

I don't know why, but somehow that just seems so unfortunate - not being able to put up flags at global village I mean...

You in Calgary?

i think its very sad that it has come that far especially in AIESEC.
people are proud of their countries and i never heard of a country without a flag...so well, if its not political, it beats me

i had an interesting conversation with an indian friend while at IC. the two of us were talking to some russian delegates and they asked us what the general pakistani public had to say about india, and vice versa. i've never heard anyone say anything horrible about an indian and i told her so, but what my friend had to say shocked me. apparently, and i guess i should've expected this, the indian public by and large hates all pakistanis. although i've been to india twice before IC, i've never felt this myself...i've always felt like i was safe - whether in an open bazaar or in a mall. i guess you can never tell.
as far as the flags go, i doubt it had anything to do with our safety. we were interviewed by about a dozen channels while in india so if the CC'd wanted us to have a low profile, that wouldn't have happened. i think it has something to do with china. however, i do agree that if aiesec is non-political, then something like this shouldn't be considered.

The case is solved.

It appears to be a menial bout of political debate.
Seems that certain territories with multiple countires that are apart of it (RUBEK, CAS< SOuthern Cone) did not want flags to be focal to a global village, since they are representing multiple countries...

but still, the flag is a symbol of ones heritage. maybe we should break this cycle of thought and think beyond our political boundaries...
or maybe not... meh
