Neoka's Song

When everything is in harmony, there is no chaos. When the world chants, we listen. When the birds sing, spring rises. When the winds blow, we feel the rhythm move us... Life is a song, and I intend to share it with you.

How to start a movement in a foreign country 101

So inspired by Make Poverty History Campaign, I decided to see what was happening in Mexico.
Nothing as you can see.

So considering there already have a couple campaigns running using the plastic bands... it shouldn't be THAT hard to start a movement here in Mexico... should it?

I'll let you know if I get anywhere...
for now I have to stop worrying about global poverty and start worrying about my paper on neo-institutionalism using a game theory model... ironic?? I think so...

If anyone has any insights on starting movements in Mexico, please let me know... (i'd like to avoid a repeat of 1968 if at all possible)

The Make Poverty History bands are already being done! A friend bought a bunch online and was selling them (donations), I got one too, and am wearing it proudly ;)

Check online, I'm sure you can do the same...even if its just among your friends and classmates....nothing wrong with starting small :)

Tell me this Kurt: How can we make poverty history if we can't agree on the causes?

I think the first step is to come up with a good way to measure poverty. Before that happens, poverty isn't going anywhere.

i think you're really hung up on this "can't agree on the causes" thing.
A suggested reading by Jeffrey Sachs author of "THE END OF POVERTY" He's a highly respected economist in his field and he is the pointed chair of MDG for the UN. I heard him speak at a conference in Ottawa once. What a passionate man, he told it like it was and sounded so convincing.

On your comment about measuring poverty? Thats even worse than the current state of globalization! I do not see an ethical way to measure poverty. You have tribal groups in the amazon who don't even use currency, are they considered poor? or are we only talking about the poor people unfortunate enough to be living in a post-colonial world where economics favors the rich and forgets about the poor?

My theory, Natural Distribution... if you want to end poverty, then END EXTREME WEALTH! People that have moe than they need are taking away from ppl that have less than they need. This is a natural law, and still is relevent today.
So even though so many steps are being made to reduce poverty in the world and HIT 2015 it is all relative once poor people have money, then the cost for thigs will increase making them poor again. Goot love Free Markets eh?
The point is, real issues in this world are being debated not "i've got a bigger bomb than you" which I am thankful for (how long it will last is another discussion.

You know, I hate to comment on an old entry... but my issue with the anti-Poverty campaigns is that I don't think throwing (more) money at it is going to solve it (Yes, certainly, money is required, but not money alone.)
